Key for the Aggies
The Offensive & Defensive Lines
I could spend hours talking about how Kellen Mond and Trayveon Williams will shine against the Warhawks, how they will rack up seemingly never ending yards of offense and the Aggies will be as happy as can be, but that isn’t what I am here for.
On Saturday night, the most important players will be the big boys up front on offense and defense. Against ULM, little mistakes may not matter. However, when you play at Alabama in Week 4, you need to take all the practice time you can. That is essentially what this game is for both the offensive and defensive lines.
Key for the Warhawks
If the Warhawks have any prayer to somehow win this game, they will need to play strong defense from start to finish. They will need to focus on keeping Kellen Mond under pressure and not allowing Trayveon Williams to find the holes he explodes out of.
At times, it seemed that even one of the league’s best defenses in Clemson couldn’t pull that off, so I doubt that ULM will be able to. However, I have been wrong before.
Game Preview and Analysis
For the Aggies, this game seems like a gimme. Of course, Arkansas losing to Colorado State showed us all that there really are no gimmes in College Football. They will face off against the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe live from Kyle Field on Saturday night. As the third straight night game at Kyle Field this season, it will no doubt be an exciting atmosphere to be in. Jimbo Fisher is slowly turning Kyle Field into what it should be and that, in itself, is exciting.
Now, onto the game. Look for the first and second string to get big time reps here. Look for lots of rotation within the defense as Fisher looks for a replacement for Anthony Hines who is now out for the season along with Ikeena Okeke. We will see Kellen Mond do his thing and Nick Starkel look to redeem himself from the mess that was Saturday night for him. One down, one fumble- not exactly what you want to do in the midst of a “quarterback competition,” but I digress.
The Aggies will treat this game as if it is any other day. They will not take ULM as a lesser opponent. This is game day and on game day you play with everything you have- no matter the score and no matter the opponent. This game is the final tune up before Alabama, so let’s hope the Aggies learn some lessons from this one.
