It’s a jam-packed week of action in mixed martial arts, with seven cards being held between Wednesday and Saturday nights.

Of the seven scheduled events, five of them are taking place inside the United States.

Needless to say, it’ll be a busy week for me in the MMA department here at Armchair.

It all begins late night Wednesday (early Thursday morning) with action from the Alaska Fighting Championship, as the Alaska Airlines Center plays host to the promotion’s AFC 153.

Main card action begins at midnight EDT, 9 p.m. PDT after the undercard of the event is streamed on the promotion’s Facebook page.

Among the fights being held on Wednesday night in Anchorage is a three-round contest between Alton Prince (5-20) and Chad Lealao (pro debut) in the Super Heavyweight division.

Competitors in Super Heavyweight contests fight at a maximum weight of 315 lbs.

In total, eight fights will be contested at AFC 153, highlighted by a non-title match in the main event.

Lightweights Nick Novelli (7-2) and Mike Plazola (16-10) will take to the cage to close the show on Wednesday night.

Being a non-title fight, it is scheduled for a maximum of three rounds at five minutes per round.

Contender Comparison:

Note: Tapology does not feature the reach advantage for the contestants in this fight.

Heading into Wednesday night’s main event, Nick Novelli is the taller contestant. He stands six feet even, four inches taller than Mike Plazola at 5-foot-8.

Novelli has posted a mark of 3-2 in his last five MMA contests.

He’ll look to right the ship after losing to Timothy Teves by first-round submission (rear-naked choke) in X-1 World Events 50 on Aug. 4, 2018.

Novelli was to have fought against Cody Rice (14-13) on Wednesday night, but the fight was postponed.

In the other corner, Plazola has gone 2-3 in his last five contests, most recently losing by second-round knockout to Jarel Askew in AFC 146 back in March on UFC Fight Pass.

Prediction: Nick Novelli by decision.
