Jordon Simmons is a 5-foot-10, 185-pound running back in the class of 2020 from Powder Springs, Georgia. Simmons is a versatile back that is young in his recruiting days, but is already getting looks from historic schools. The sophomore holds 5 offers at the moment from Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oregon and South Carolina. He has also visited Clemson and will be at Notre Dame this weekend.
“I owe the credit to my dad,” Simmons told Armchair. “Growing up he was always my coach. He always pushed me and would get on to me when I didn’t do the right things. But my family and coaches have always pushed me too.”
When asked to compare his playing style to an NFL running back, Simmons didn’t have anybody particular in mind, but he did know what attribute he would have. “Man I really don’t know, as long as it’s somebody speedy, that’s what I would say… anybody that’s fast.”
That answer intrigued me, so I went on to ask if he would rather truck-stick or hurdle someone.
Simmons laughed, “Truck-stick, I really don’t know how to hurdle someone but I do know how to get contact.”
“I’m a package running back,” he said. “I bring it all.”
Coaches seem to think the same – Simmons began receiving Power 5 offers when he was a freshman. “My dad and I started the process early, went out to some camps this past summer and got some good exposure.”
The running back had a busy summer, experiencing what the world of football had to offer, “The camps went well, I got to visit: South Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia and other small camps.”
Simmons enjoyed the Georgia Bulldogs camp.
“I liked the Georgia camp, Coach McGee put a lot of the recruit guys in a group so we got a lot if individual attention.”
Clemson and Notre Dame are among the ACC schools that have shown an early interest in Simmons. He is in Illinois this weekend to watch the Fighting Irish take on Georgia.
“I’m excited to meet the coaching staff, explore the school and its tradition, see if the coaches treat me like family and just have a good time.”
