Week 11 saw a crazy shakeup in the Atlantic Division with Clemson losing to Pittsburgh. Duke upset North Carolina. Wake Forest gave Louisville a scare, even though the final score is nowhere close to being indicative of that. But that is what happens in November. Good teams lose. Will week 12 be any different than week 11?
Louisville @ Houston (Thursday @ 8:00)
This game was very exciting when the year began. Houston was a playoff hopeful and an all around media darling. Tom Herman’s Cougars finished the 2015 season with a win over FSU and beat Oklahoma to start the 2016 season. They have since fallen off by losing two games. Normally, 2 losses would not be terrible. When a group of 5 team has losses, it looks much worse. Louisville has also been struggling. After their lone loss to Clemson, the 5th ranked Cardinals have played games that were far too close for comfort. Because of this, Thursday night should show a solid match between two talented teams.
Virginia @ Georgia Tech (Saturday @ 12:30)
UVA is fighting Duke for last place in the ACC Coastal. Georgia Tech has 3 ACC wins this year and are 6-4 overall. This is not the best year for either team. However, Georgia Tech is much improved this year. They should win this game. Georgia Tech is the 11 point favorite.
This game will actually be exciting. Both of these teams are not world beaters but they both come to this game with some likable attributes. NC State is a scrappy team and Miami is much improved under Mark Richt. Neither team has anything to lose. NC State is trying to get bowl eligible, though, and a win against Miami would secure that eligibility. Miami is the 3 point road favorite.
UConn @ Boston College (Saturday @ 1:00)
Boston College is a mess. Constantly living in the dregs in the ACC, Boston College has not done anything significant since Matt Ryan led the team. UConn has the opportunity to make the short trip and leave with a win. They come in as the 8 point underdog though.
Duke @ Pittsburgh (Saturday @ 3:00)
Pittsburgh just shocked the world this past Saturday at Clemson. A late field goal in the fourth quarter as the kicker did not blow it (snicker, snicker) has the Panthers sitting nicely when the Blue Devils come to visit. Duke is also just a few days removed from an upset. Any time they get the chance to beat North Carolina AND make their path that much harder to an ACC championship, they will take it. And enjoy it. Pittsburgh’s James Conner will be the difference maker in this game.
Florida State @ Syracuse (Saturday @ 3:30)
The Seminoles are in an interesting situation. They are ranked 17th, which, of course, is a dangerous position this year. The 17th ranked teams this year have found it difficult to win this year. Syracuse is actually one of the teams that beat a team that was ranked at 17. If Florida State does not take this game seriously, they will be the next team added to this list.
Citadel @ North Carolina (Saturday @ 3:30)
North Carolina should call their neighbor South Carolina about how to beat the Citadel – and then do the exact opposite of what they say. The Bulldogs from Charleston, SC, are having a great season. But North Carolina will be too much for them to handle.
Virginia Tech @ Notre Dame (Saturday @ 3:30)
Notre Dame would be favored in this game most seasons. But, the are not. The spread is even. So will we see a tie this week? Virginia Tech is a good team and Notre Dame is, well, not. The Hokies will stretch their record to 8 wins this week.
Clemson @ Wake Forest (Saturday @ 7:00)
Clemson was just upset at home by Pittsburgh but are still in the playoff picture. The 4th ranked Tigers will make the short trip up to Winston-Salem to play the Demon Deacons this Saturday. This may be a bad week. While Pitt was able to make Clemson’s defense look like warm butter, Wake Forest is going to have to play against the angst of that same defense. Clemson will play angry and should cover the 23 point spread.
