The Philadelphia 76ers appear to have the third seed in the Eastern Conference under their control.

With the excitement of their playoff positioning gone, it’s time to look at some potential playoff matchups.

Three Team Race

The Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat currently hold the last three seeds in the playoff race.

The Sixers have fared well against the Pistons and Heat this season going a combined 5-1. The Sixers still have one game remaining against the Heat.

Both those teams are favorable matchups because of their reliance on their forecourt players.

Joel Embiid has had his way against Andre Drummond and Hassan Whiteside since entering the league. Both Drummond and Whiteside aren’t threats to shoot from the outside, which allows Embiid to protect the paint better.

The Nets should be the team the Sixers should want to avoid in a first-round series. The season series ended tied at two games each with the Sixers taking the last meeting 123-110 Thursday night.

They present matchup nightmares with the depth they have at the guard position. D’Angelo Russell, Caris LaVert and Spencer Dinwiddie have given the Sixers problems throughout the season.

On December 12, 2018, Dinwiddie scored 39 points in 30 minutes that lead the Nets to victory in Philadelphia.

Russell scored 38 points against the Sixers on November 25, 2018. The Nets entered the fourth quarter with a 13-point lead before Jimmy Butler hit a game-winning three-pointer to give the Sixers a 127-125 win.

LaVert averaged 19 points per game in two meetings against the Sixers this season.

Eastern Conference guards have been a problem for the Sixers to defend all season. Kemba Walker scored 62 points early in the season, while Kyrie Irving and Trae Young have recently had big nights against the Sixers.

The Sixers should be hoping to see any team but the Nets come playoff time.
