The Philadelphia 76ers most recent game against the San Antonio Spurs was one of the worst losses of the season.

The 123-96 defeat was the team’s third loss in their last four games and after some quality performances from the bench, that production has disappeared as of late.

Maybe a new face could help this bench.

Austin Rivers….

Austin Rivers, who recently parted ways with the Phoenix Suns shortly after being acquired from the Washington Wizards, could be useful with the 76ers.

The sixth-year player out of Duke could fit nicely with this veteran team. The possibly of getting minutes could be appealing to Rivers.

His ability to ball handle and to create his own shot can’t be overlooked. The 76ers have needed that for the past several seasons and is why Jimmy Butler is now on the team.

The role of ball handling and creating was supposed to go to Markelle Fultz, but the second-year guard has yet to earn it.

Now to be clear, Rivers certainly won’t help their poor defense or carry the team when they aren’t hitting shots. He won’t propel the 76ers past the likes of the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics in a playoff series.

But he’s an upgrade over an empty roster spot the team has had since the Butler trade.

Something needs to be done soon about the lack of depth in the rotation. It’s not Brett Brown’s fault he doesn’t have enough good players.
