Instead of riding that momentum, the 76ers have faltered with two disappointing losses and now sit at the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Depth, Depth, Depth
The 76ers lack much production outside of their starting five. Wilson Chandler left the Warriors game with a strained quad, which will put him out until after the all-star break.
J.J. Redick sat out against the Kings because of a scheduled rest day and missed the Raptors game with nausea.
Muscala has played 50 minutes over the last two games, shooting 20 percent from the field (2-10) while scoring 11 points in both games combined.
Chandler is averaging just 6.7 points per game, but he produces in only ways. His high 3-point percentage (39 percent) and his ability to switch on defense have been sorely missed.
Muscala is not a good defender and gets easily exposed when the opposing team switches him unto a guard. Plus, he shoots the three at just 34.5 percent.
No luck for the rookie
Shamet’s struggles are much more surprising. He’s shooting over 40 percent from three this season but over the last two games has shot just 27 percent (3-11) from downtown.
Shooters aren’t going to be make 40 percent of their threes every game, but it’s come at the worst time for the 76ers.
Without Redick in the lineup they don’t have many reliable shooters. Shamet is one of those few the team can usually rely on but he’s struggling as a starter.
As a team they have shot under 30 percent from three in the last two games.
The others must do better. Maybe that’s part of the reason the Tobias Harris trade has occurred.
