Okay Cardinals fans, you can breathe a sigh of relief. The Arizona Cardinals have signed FS/CB/Quaterback’s nightmare Tyrann Matthieu to a 5 year, 62.5 million dollar contract extension. Mathieu’s deal includes 40 million in guaranteed money, with a signing bonus of 15.5 million. The Honey Badger is now under contract until 2022.
Impact on the Cardinals and Mathieu
The Cardinals make a great decision locking down the heart and soul of their defense for the next six years. He and Patrick Peterson will continue to dominate opposing quarterbacks, as well as giving Arizona the talent to compete for a possible Super Bowl while Carson Palmer is still in his prime. It is not far fetched to believe that the Cardinals could make it to big game this season, with the three headed monster of Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald, and David Johnson all healthy and ready to go. In addition to an already frightening defense, lead by Mathieu, Peterson and Deone Bucannon the Cards look poised to go deep into the playoffs.
With the 2016 NFL season approaching, Cardinals fan have a lot to be excited for.
