During last month’s NFL Draft in Dallas, the Titans drafted a franchise low four players in the process. With only selecting four players, the Titans are in a great position to sign a great deal of undrafted free agents (UDFA’s). There are only a few who have a solid shot to make the roster. Here are the three guys, in my mind, who have the best chance.

Akrum Wadley

Wadley is a 5’9, 194 lbs. running back out of Iowa who’s skill set can give you similar looks to Dion Lewis. Wadley is an excellent between the tackles runner and also can catch the ball out the backfield. With Dion Lewis’ history of injuries, Wadley serves as a replacement for Lewis if he ever goes down. With DeMarco Murray gone, Derrick Henry ready to lead the show and Dion Lewis serving as the first scat/speed guy out the backfield, Wadley won’t see playing time early, according to plan. But, if one of Henry or Lewis suffers an injury, expect Wadley to come in and make a difference. Wadley has a real shot to make the team, but has competition with David “FluSZN” Fluellen who has been the third back for the last two seasons.

Deontay Burnett

Burnett is a 5’11, 186 lbs. wide receiver out of USC. He comes to the Titans after putting in a 86 catch, 1,114 yard year in his final season as a Trojan. Burnett is on the smaller side as a pass catcher, but has a great shot at making the roster. The Titans’ wide receiving core wasn’t great last year, with no one accumulating 1000 yards. The talent in the group is great, however. Former number five overall pick, Corey Davis is coming into his second season. Having a full off-season instead of an injury ridden one. Rishard Matthews has been the most consistent the last two years and I expect him to continue his high level of play. Taywan Taylor was criminally underused last season and is looking to turn things around in a Matt LaFleur offense. Tajae Sharpe missed all of last season with a foot injury and is looking to cement himself in this offense with a new staff in place. After Sharpe, there is nothing. Having Burnett as a fifth wide out who can step in and deliver in case of an injury is greatly needed for this team. Even for his own case, Burnett has the potential to play some special teams as well.

Sharif Finch

Finch is an outside linebacker who played five years at Temple University. He ended his career at Temple with 8.5 sacks and 50 tackles. I really believe he makes this roster because of his productivity and potential as a pass rusher. Yes, the Titans did select Harold Landry in the second round, but don’t forget Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo aren’t getting any younger. Behind Orakpo, Morgan and Landry, there’s just no long term security. Kevin Dodd has been hit with injuries and has made a slow transition from a 4-3 defensive end to a 3-4 OLB. Josh Carraway has been in and mostly out of the rotation. He has to compete to make the roster, but with the lack of depth at OLB, I can see Finch sliding in.

Just Missed The Cut

Ethan Wolf

Wolf comes onto this team after spending all four years at the University of Tennessee. He can come in and push for the third tight end spot, but Luke Stocker was signed late last season and may have a chance to make the team again as well as Phillip Supernaw. Maybe he can push for the spot, but for right now I see him being a practice squad player.

Damon Webb

Webb is a 5’10, 209 lbs. safety out of Ohio State. He converted to safety after not getting much playing time at corner and to say the least, the switch paid off. He ended his time at Ohio State by collecting six interceptions and 131 tackles. The Titans already have their starting safety duo in Kevin Byard and Johnathan Cyprien. They also have a third safety behind those two when they drafted Dane Cruikshank in the fourth round. For that reason, I just don’t see him making the team. Maybe as a potential special teamer, but other than that, I see him as a practice squad candidate. His secondary coach in college, Kerry Coombs is now with the Titans, so Coombs may be able to have some voice on Webb’s future.
