Unfortunately this was not one of the better weekends for Kentucky athletics. The baseball team was in action, there’s some football news and the softball team did something great.
Here’s your weekend update:
Kentucky Baseball loses big series in Knoxville.
The bat Cats traveled to Knoxville as they took on the Tennessee Volunteers in a three game set this weekend. Sadly, they left town with another series loss on the road against an SEC opponent. Kentucky lost Friday’s game, won Saturday’s game, and lost Sunday’s game. During Sunday’s Came the Cats came all the way back to tie at 3-3 in the top of the 7th only to give the lead right back up in the bottom of that inning. Justin Lewis gave up a two-run bomb to Brandon Chinea that propelled the Vols to a 5-3 win. The Cats needed this series win desperately, but now looks to this weekend against Mississippi State to get back on track.
Denzil Ware transfers from Kentucky Football.
This is not good news for all of the BBN. Denzil Ware was a beast for the Wildcats, racking up 157 tackles over 3 seasons to go with 27 of those tackles being for a loss. Not only did he put up the numbers but Denzil has become a fan favorite and a leader on the field for this Kentucky Football team. This is a big blow to the already thin linebacker core that wasn’t anticipated for Mark Stoops and Co. Denzil was suspended for the bowl game due to a violation of team rules, but no other reports were heard about exactly what happened. Either way, good luck to Denzil wherever he goes!
Kentucky Softball secures spot in the SEC Tournament.
After taking two of three from No. 12 South Carolina this weekend, the Kentucky softball team has earned the No. 10 seed in the 2018 SEC Tournament. They will face the No. 7 seeded Arkansas Razorbacks in the opening round on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. EST. This is huge for Kentucky Softball. They’ve had a great season and have competed well in the best conference for Softball in the country. They finished the season at 31-18, and they were able to make it to the postseason. The Cats haven’t played Arkansas all year, but did sweep them a season ago in the series. Congrats to the team on a great year!
