RECAP

After shooting just 37% in a sloppy win on Wednesday, the Mountaineers looked to turn their luck around. West Virginia put up 64 shots on Saturday, making 50% of them in route to a 19 point win over Kansas State. The two teams went to the free throw line a combined 61 times in the foul-ridden contest. In the end, it didn’t matter that the Wildcats made six more foul shots than the Mountaineers even attempted, as Kansas State fell thanks to shooting 34% from the floor.

Kansas State had a well-balanced attack, having five players score in double figures. In contrast, only Jevon Carter and Esa Ahmad went for more than 10 for the Mountaineers. Carter led the way for West Virginia, with 19 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Wesley Iwundu has headed the Wildcat attack, netting 14 points and pulling down eight boards. For the Mountaineers, Ahmad looked to finally be back on the bright side, going 5-6 from the field.

For West Virginia Jevon Carter has played a significant role all season. Including Saturday’s game, Carter averages 11.5 points per game to go along with 4.4 assists per game. Jevon, as well as Nathan Adrian, have played key roles in Bob Huggins fullcourt press. The two are major reasons the Mountaineers forced 19 turnovers against Kansas State.

With the win, the Mountaineers climb to 20-5. Kansas State falls to 16-9. The Wildcats will host Iowa State on Wednesday. The Mountaineers will be on the road Monday, traveling to Lawrence to face-off with the #3 Kansas Jayhawks.
