With the World Cup of Hockey less than three weeks away, it is officially time to start covering and getting excited for the beginning of this “best-on-best” tournament. In what will be the first of three articles posted every Wednesday before the tournament begins on September 17th, this first article will cover line projections for each country.

Russia is one of the overall teams that could make a run at gold during the World Cup of Hockey. Loaded with talent from Forwards all the way to Goal they will be a danger for teams.

Goaltenders

  • Andrei Vasilevskiy
  • Sergei Bobrovsky
  • Semyon Varlamov

Goalie is a very important decision for the Russian team. With the resurgence of how Vasilevskiy played in relief for Tampa Bay during the playoffs, the easy answer to that goaltender question is Vasilevskiy in net to start for the Russians.

Forward

1st Line

  • Evgeni Malkin
  • Evgeny Kuznetsov
  • Alex Ovechkin

2nd Line

  • Nikita Kucherov
  • Pavel Datsyuk
  • Artem Anisimov

3rd Line

  • Vladislav Namestnikov
  • Vladimir Tarasenko
  • Artemi Panarin

4th Line

  • Nikolay Kulemin
  • Vadim Shipachyov
  • Ivan Telegin

The Russians are loaded with goal scores down the lines. Ovechkin and Kucherov are both threats to score at any given time and from any spot on the ice. The more that these guys spend on the ice the bigger an impact they will have on each game they play.

Defense

1st Line

  • Dmitry Kulikov
  • Andrei Markov

2nd Line

  • Alexei Emelin
  • Alexey Marchenko

3rd Line

  • Dmitry Orlov
  • Nikita Zaitsev

The Russians defense is probably their weakest part of the team, and they still have good threats at the point. Kulikov will anchor this defensive core and will help solidify Russia’s attempt at a Gold.
